47: The Spirit of Saint Olovald

Aubentag 23 rd Sommerzeit You woke at Gart’s Farm quite late in the day, and you wondered whether to press on over night, but, guided by one of Dietrich’s dreams, you thought that there wasn’t much chance of Flosse being able to have followed you, so you decided to stay longer at the farm. Berta and Balden were feeling a bit off from having crawled through the latrines, so the other three of you took your turn to watch. You noticed that Mellori didn’t sleep, though, and he seemed to be watching you as much as watching out. On last watch, Max noticed as the sun came up, Balden groped around for the glass, and he watched the sunrise through the glass, or something. Marktag 24 th Sommerzeit Max had a word with Artur about him joining your company and explained that you had a sort of investigations company in Marienburg and you made quite a good living from it. And Artur said it was certainly more exciting than sitting in a temple all day or patrolling the waterways. You set off ...

46: Back to the Latrine

Wellentag 22 nd Sommerzeit You agreed to head west in pursuit of Flosse and her entourage with Mellori the elf who promised you one hundred crowns if you would help him retrieve the Glass of Anyasrya. H e said you were the least untrustworthy of all the factions involved. You worked out that they would be about two hours ahead of you but you thought it wouldn’t be hard to follow them as you knew where they were heading, and you thought that they would have to follow the coast for fear of missing their ship that was due to come the other way. As you went you had a long discussion about books you may have read if you can read. After a while Mellori went ahead of you and returned to report that they were only a couple of miles ahead. And you wondered whether the elf could have been spotted, because you had spotted him several times when he had been following you, but he insisted he hadn’t. And towards evening Balden and Max recognised the bit of coast you were on and agreed that arou...

45: The Treasure

Festag 21 st Sommerzeit The elven thing was so frightening that none of you could bring yourself to stand in its way. So you hovered around the edge of the chamber. Only Gustav, surprisingly perhaps, was brave enough to face up to the thing. Balden and Dietrich tried to channel, but only Dietrich was successful, perhaps helped by the purple magic that filled the chamber . He managed to gather enough magic to cast a spell at the undead construct, reminding it of how it used to be alive. Berta shuffled around the edge of the room , preparing to go for the altar-like block of stone in the centre. Max fired his blunderbuss hitting the thing squarely, but the blast had little effect. And Artur drew his sword trying to pluck up the courage to join Gustav. Then the thing swirled towards you. It whipped out a bony tendril towards Max’s head which he barely dodged. Then another one shot out towards one of the marines, lashing him painfully. Another one went towards Gustav which he manage...

44: Nordwrack

Festag 21 st Sommerzeit Meanwhile, Artur was working as a guard in the temple of Manaan in Nordwrack just a few miles to the north. He had been a river warden in Marienburg but was seconded to the temple for a four month stint. It was boring guard duty, with not much happening and listening to incessant chanties. Was it something he did, or was he just unlucky? The temple was built on a small island just off the coast above some elven ruins and an elven sculpture of Manaan (Mathla n n), and with a now destroyed elven bridge. The moder n temple was a load of derelict boats and ships lashed together surrounding the rock . Karl Inghal and his family turned up at the temple, having been turfed out of their farmstead by a band of goblins. Father Alsen was happy to shelter them in his temple and ordered Artur to take a look at the situation to see if there was anything to be done. Artur managed to convince Karl to escort him to the farmstead even though it was pretty clear the man did...

43: The Painting

Image
43: The Painting Angestag 20 th Sommerzeit Berta was still talking to Flosse Drakwald. Flosse asked why she had been heading to Wulfhaven but Berta said that she couldn’t tell her because of client confidentiality. Flosse said that she had thought Brambledown was a halfling of discretion and tact, but that turned out not to be the case. And then she went off on a rant about how men couldn’t be trusted, and Berta agreed with her. Meanwhile, Max readied his blunderbuss, and Balden channelled his magic. Dietrich channelled his magic and was ready to summon some magical dogs to his aid, but couldn’t make his spell work . And a small goblin at the back heard something, and when he looked round he could see Dietrich sticking his head up from behind the wall. Balden entangled the goblin chief, his makeshift wooden throne growing branches that grabbed the goblin. And Max fired his blunderbuss, killing a group of five goblins instantly and spattering the painting on the goblin chief’s ro...
