36: Mystic Myrtle’s

Image
Fes tag 5 th Sommerzeit After leaving Scheinfeld, the three days of travel back to Marienburg were uneventful and you arrived in Kruiersmuur. You went to see Rotter at the Hangman and told him you had got his cheese back safely. He wondered why you had taken so long and you gave him a long story of most of the things that had happened to you on your journey, but he didn’t believe the more fantastical stuff. And you wondered about the payment for the cheese but he seemed to think you had agreed that the trip up to Carroburg had given you plenty of opportunity to turn a profit, an d you had to admit that this was fair, as you had made a lot of money from the trip. Then you asked him about Greta and there was a look of panic in his eyes. And then Greta entered the tavern and a heated argument quickly escalated between them. The gist of it was that Greta seemed to think she was the brains behind Rotter’s business empire, and he had stolen it from her. And you got the impression they...

35: Cheese Heist

Backertag 1 st Sommerzeit So, in the evening, you had a chat on the boat about what you had got up to at the wizards house. Greta was still a bit annoyed about being delayed on her way to Marienburg. She told you about the time she and Rotter had smuggled arabyan spices inside figurines of Sigmar, Max felt that was a bit sacrilegious, but that reminded you of your smuggling the amber inside barrels of salted fish. And then Greta had a sudden realisation and she pulled her dagger and stabbed one of the cakes of cheese. It sort of exploded in a cloud of white powder, which you may have recognised as white lotus. The cloud especially covered Greta but engulfed all of you, and you were all affected by the drug except Balden. The Lotus seemed to make you think and speak quite quickly and you were all suddenly very enthusiastic about you own ideas. You concluded that the river wardens who had confiscated one of the cheeses earlier that day, must also have one filled with drugs. You wo...

34: Return to Prie

Aubentag 32 nd Sigmarzeit Before you fell asleep, you had a chat about whether to have a snoop around the house. Dietrich said that it might be worth having a look, but Balden said he was a bit worried about Stalborg and what he could do if he caught you, and it might be best to just leave with the two hundred crowns. Max said you should keep all the money, and pretend you were in Stalborg’s thrall, and then when you got back to Marienburg, Dietrich should write to the colleges to report him. He also suggested that Stalborg was more powerful a wizard than Balden and Dietrich combined. Mark tag 33 rd Sigmarzeit So you stayed i n your room and went to bed. In the morning Ethel gave you breakfast and apologised that the Stalborgs wouldn’t be seeing you off, so you had nothing left to do but leave. On the way, you inspected one of the lightning rods again, and Dietrich tried to fathom its magical properties but the area was so blasted with Azyr he wasn’t able to detect any of the ot...

33: The Stalborgs

Image
Wellentag 31 st Sigmarzeit As it turned out, despite having been ill and not eaten for a few days Dietrich decided not to touch the food, but waited until later when he could tuck into the Carroburg cake he had carried with him since Carroburg. And Balden had some of the food but laid off the wine. After dinner Celia Stalborg returned to tell you that her father would not be able to make it this evening, after all, and you would be welcome to stay the night in the guest room. You made some small talk and Max tried to impress Celia but annoyed her by calling her ‘dear.’ You thought about just leaving, but you realised it was much too late for that. So you settled into your makeshift guest room where Ethel, the maid, had made up some beds for you. Max wondered whether you had been locked in and opened the door, to see Ethel walking down the corridor, and so he pretended he was looking for a towel. You thought about snooping round the house that night but in the end decided to just g...
